Malaysia and Singapore discussed bilateral cooperation, regional issues and Bahasa Melayu usage.
On 21 September 2026, H.E. Datin Paduka Anizan Siti Hajjar Adnin, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore, met Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs of the Republic of Singapore, Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, for an introductory call in Singapore. The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss Malaysia-Singapore relations and cooperation, as well as regional and global issues of mutual concern.
During the introductory call, the Malaysian and Singaporean representatives exchanged views on bilateral relations and areas of cooperation between the two neighbouring countries. Discussions also covered prospects for inter-regional collaboration between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and other regions.
The meeting also addressed people-to-people relations between Malaysia and Singapore, with both sides acknowledging efforts to enhance the usage of Bahasa Melayu. They agreed to continue collaborating in this area as part of ongoing engagement between the two countries.
The introductory call took place following H.E. Datin Paduka Anizan Siti Hajjar Adnin’s appointment as Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Singapore and provided an opportunity for engagement with Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs.
The discussion reflected the range of issues addressed through Malaysia-Singapore bilateral engagement, including cooperation between the two countries, regional and global developments, inter-regional relations involving ASEAN, and people-to-people ties.
Malaysia and Singapore maintain close relations as neighbouring Southeast Asian countries, with bilateral engagement covering a range of areas. The introductory meeting provided a platform for the High Commissioner and Singapore’s Minister of State to exchange views on matters of mutual concern and identify areas for continued cooperation.
