Thailand and Singapore discussed agricultural trade opportunities, food security and sustainable development priorities.
Ms Piyarat Tiyapairat, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand, led a Thai delegation on an official visit to Singapore from 29 to 30 October 2026 to attend the 48th Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (48th AMAF) and related meetings. During the visit, the Deputy Minister was received by the Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore, with discussions focusing on opportunities to expand the market for Thai agricultural products in Singapore and regional cooperation in food security and sustainable development.

The Thai delegation included Mr Pongthai Thaiyothin, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and other representatives from the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. The Ambassador welcomed the delegation and held discussions with the Deputy Minister on agricultural trade opportunities and the future direction of Thailand’s agricultural exports to Singapore.

The discussions took place against the backdrop of Singapore’s efforts to diversify its food supply sources and reduce dependence on any single import origin. Singapore has also prioritised the application of technology and innovation to enhance food security. These priorities present areas of alignment with Thailand’s agricultural development strategies and its ambition to become a secure, safe and internationally trusted food producer under its Food Assurance approach.
Thailand’s agricultural sector has continued to focus on improving production standards and developing its capacity to meet international expectations for food safety and reliability. Expanding access to the Singapore market was among the issues discussed during the Ambassador’s meeting with the Deputy Minister, reflecting the shared interest in agricultural trade and dependable food supply chains.

At the 48th AMAF Meeting, Thailand expressed its support for regional policies addressing sustainable agriculture, climate change adaptation and the resilience of food supply chains. These priorities were discussed in the context of ASEAN’s collective efforts to address food security challenges and promote sustainable agricultural development.

Thailand’s participation in the ministerial meeting also highlighted its commitment to regional cooperation aimed at improving farmers’ well-being and supporting a more secure and sustainable food system in ASEAN. The discussions with Singapore provided an opportunity to exchange views on agricultural market access and the role of technology and innovation in meeting future food security needs.
