Secretary-General of ASEAN to Lead Delegation to 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits in Lao PDR

Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, will lead the ASEAN Secretariat’s Delegation to the ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in Vientiane, Lao PDR, from 8-11 October 2024.

At the invitation of H.E. Sonexay Siphandone, Chair of ASEAN for 2024 and Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, will lead the ASEAN Secretariat’s Delegation to participate in the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits. The high-level meetings will be held from 8 to 11 October 2024 in Vientiane, Lao PDR, under the theme “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience.”

Key engagements during the Summits include the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), and ASEAN Youth. These meetings will provide a platform for discussions on regional collaboration and the progress of ASEAN’s initiatives.

In the lead-up to the ASEAN Summits, Dr. Kao will participate in several important meetings, including the 24th ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Council Meeting, ASEAN Investment Forum, ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, 28th ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) Council Meeting, and the 35th ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC) Meeting. He will also attend the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit and a Special Reception hosted by Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, on 7-8 October 2024.

During his stay in Vientiane, Dr. Kao is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with leaders and heads of delegations from ASEAN’s external partner countries and international organizations. These discussions aim to strengthen existing cooperation, explore new areas of collaboration, and advance ASEAN’s community-building goals. The series of summits will serve as vital platforms to assess the progress of ASEAN’s initiatives, establish future priorities, and reaffirm ASEAN’s pivotal role in fostering regional peace, security, and sustainable economic growth.
