THE Embassy of Ukraine in Singapore marked International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8th March 2018 with a lunch gathering at the Tower Club penthouse at Raffles Place. Ukranian Ambassador HE Dmytro Senik together with his wife, Mdm Yevheniia Yemshenetska (picture above on his left), were the hosts to a select group of ladies who represent their countries. They included (starting from Amb Senik’s right): High Commissioner of Canada, HE Nancy Lynn McDonald; Ambassador of Finland, HE Paula Johanna Parviainen; Ambassador of the European Union, HE Barbara Plinkert; publisher of IN Diplomacy magazine, Mrs Nomita Dhar and Ambassador of the Embassy of Costa Rica here, HE Iris Manzanares Murillo.
Ambassador Senik explained how Ukranian is still very much a matriarchal society and it was a good time to meet and exchange thoughts on IWD’s aims to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. The IWD theme for 2018 is ‘Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives’.
