The High Commission of Sri Lanka donates books to the National Library Board, highlighting cultural exchange and strengthening bilateral friendship.

Singapore, 25 September 2025 — The High Commission of Sri Lanka has gifted a collection of books to the National Library Board (NLB) of Singapore, officially launching the Sri Lanka Collection within the Central Library’s International Section. The initiative commemorates the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Singapore.

At the handover ceremony, His Excellency Senarath Dissanayake, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Singapore, presented the books to Ms Michelle Lau, Deputy Director, Partnership and Strategy, NLB. The curated collection, contributed by both the Sri Lanka High Commission in Singapore and the National Library Board of Sri Lanka, will provide Singaporean readers with deeper insights into Sri Lanka’s rich culture, history, literature, and natural environment.

The event was attended by officials from both institutions, underscoring the significance of this cultural milestone. High Commissioner Dissanayake described the collection as a reflection of the long-standing friendship between the two countries. “The Sri Lanka Collection is a testament to the enduring ties between our nations. We hope it will inspire Singaporeans to discover more about Sri Lanka’s heritage and culture, and encourage greater interest in visiting our country,” he said.

Ms Lau welcomed the contribution on behalf of the NLB, noting that the collection would enhance the diversity of the library’s international resources and provide opportunities for readers to explore new perspectives from the South Asian region.

The launch not only marks an important anniversary in Sri Lanka–Singapore relations but also strengthens people-to-people ties through knowledge sharing and cultural appreciation.
