From 9 to 11 November 2025, the South African High Commission in Singapore hosted an MBA cohort from Wits Business School, University of the Witwatersrand. Led by Prof Emmanuel Quay, the group comprised 14 MBA students and three faculty leaders. Their visit formed part of an international immersion programme, a credited module designed to expose participants to global best practices and leading sectors in Singapore and Malaysia.

The immersion programme aims to offer students direct insights into diverse business environments while cultivating a global mindset. Through cultural engagement, networking opportunities, and interactions with local organisations, the students deepened their understanding of global markets, varied economic systems, and cultural nuances. The trip also helped them strengthen key competencies such as communication, problem-solving, and adaptability—skills essential for leadership in an increasingly interconnected world.

Given today’s rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape, the visit placed particular focus on the geopolitical and socio-economic factors influencing global business decision-making. Discussions highlighted how Singapore leverages innovation, technological disruption, entrepreneurship, and sustainable business practices to remain competitive. Stakeholders also shared Singapore’s transformational journey from a developing nation to a global economic powerhouse, its ease of doing business, the future of work, advances in technology, and its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) priorities.

On the first day, the South African High Commissioner to Singapore, H.E. Madiepetsane Charlotte Lobe, warmly welcomed the delegation and engaged them in an in-depth dialogue. The session covered the role of South African missions abroad, the work of the High Commission, opportunities for South Africa in the region, and ongoing bilateral collaborations. The group also met with the South African Chamber of Commerce in Singapore, which provided practical insights on doing business in Singapore and emerging innovations in sustainability.

The South African High Commission extended its best wishes to the MBA students as they continue their academic journey, commending their commitment to expanding their knowledge and global perspectives.
