Sri Lankan authorities update Singapore travel and media stakeholders on ground conditions and tourism preparedness following recent adverse weather.
SINGAPORE, 17 DECEMBER 2025 — A Post-Flood Travel and Tourism Briefing Session was held at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore to update Singapore’s travel, trade and media stakeholders on the prevailing situation in Sri Lanka following recent adverse weather conditions.
The event was organised by the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), to provide accurate updates to key stakeholders and reinforce Sri Lanka’s positioning as a safe and welcoming destination. The session was conducted in a hybrid format.
Members of the National Association of Travel Agents (NATAS), representatives from Singapore’s travel and tourism industry, and media attended the session in person. Officials from the SLTPB, the SriLankan Airlines Country Manager for Malaysia and Singapore, and Singapore-based travel agents participated virtually.

In his opening remarks, High Commissioner Senarath Dissanayake welcomed participants and noted that Singapore continues to be one of Sri Lanka’s most important source markets in Southeast Asia. He highlighted sustained interest among Singaporean travellers in Sri Lanka’s tourism offerings, including culture, heritage, wellness, nature and adventure tourism, and stated that tourism activities are expected to return to pre-flood capacity in the near term.
Mr Buddhika Hewawasam, Chairman of the SLTPB, reassured stakeholders that the majority of Sri Lanka’s key tourist regions and all international gateways remain fully operational, ensuring uninterrupted access for visitors. He outlined the safety measures in place for tourists, including accommodation availability, tourism services, transport connectivity and preparedness to manage potential weather-related risks.
A detailed update on the post-flood ground situation and tourism readiness was delivered by Mr Chinthaka Liyanaarachchi, Deputy Director – Marketing, SLTPB. His presentation covered the current flood situation, affected districts, availability of tourist facilities and accommodation, safety protocols, and connectivity by road, rail and air.
An interactive question-and-answer session followed, facilitated by Mr Ahamed Razee, Minister and Head of Chancery, and Ms Bhagya Abeykoon, Minister Counsellor (Commercial), enabling participants to engage directly with Sri Lankan tourism authorities. The session concluded with refreshments featuring a selection of Sri Lankan cuisine.
