Singapore Manufacturing Federation hosted a session on practical decarbonisation strategies. Industry experts shared insights on energy regulations, efficiency, and implementation.

The Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) hosted a session titled “Decarbonisation in Practice: Practical Pathways to Energy Performance under MEI & MEES” at the SMF Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre (AMIC) in Singapore. The event brought together industry experts, policymakers, and sustainability professionals to discuss how businesses can respond to evolving energy regulations while improving operational efficiency.

The session focused on helping companies understand the Mandatory Energy Improvement (MEI) regime and Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES). Speakers also discussed practical approaches such as integrated energy systems, waste heat recovery, and service-based energy models. These methods can help organisations reduce carbon emissions while managing operational risks and energy costs.

A panel discussion concluded the event, moderated by Clara Kwan, Chief Sustainability Officer at the Singapore Manufacturing Federation. Panelists included Sheldon Wee (KJCyclect), Melvin Tan (Cyclect Holdings), Dr. Md Raisul Islam (National University of Singapore), Aaron Patel (iHandal Energy Solutions), and Ir. Dr. Kok Haw Kong (Greatians Consulting Sdn Bhd). The experts shared real-world experiences on moving from regulatory awareness to practical implementation, highlighting the need to balance cost, efficiency, and risk in today’s uncertain global environment.

Several speakers also contributed insights during the session, including Chris Tay (Building and Construction Authority), Jaylene Tan (National Environment Agency), Ashraf K Suppiah (Cyclect Energy), Ts. Adrian Lim (P.Tech) from KJ FEM Pte Ltd, Aaron Patel from IHandal Singapore, and Dr. Md Raisul Islam from the National University of Singapore.

The event highlighted how businesses can translate sustainability regulations into actionable decarbonisation strategies. SMF also introduced its Chief Sustainability Officer-as-a-Service (CSO-aaS) programme, designed to help companies navigate complex sustainability requirements, identify decarbonisation opportunities, and build a clear roadmap toward energy efficiency and carbon reduction.
