The visit of IOS SAGAR to Singapore highlighted the growing maritime cooperation and shared values among partners in the Indian Ocean Region.

During the visit, the commanding officer and international crew members from partner navies paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the Kranji War Memorial in a solemn ceremony honouring sacrifice and remembrance. The tribute reflected the spirit of solidarity and mutual respect shared by maritime partners across the region.

The mission also hosted scholars and academics from Singapore-based think tanks for a dialogue on the theme “SAGAR to MAHASAGAR: Evolution of India’s Approach to Collaborative Maritime Security.” Participants were briefed on the objectives of the IOS SAGAR mission and India’s initiatives to strengthen collaborative maritime security in the Indo-Pacific.

Community outreach activities formed an important part of the visit. Crew members visited the Narayana Old Age & Nursing Home to present a special lunch prepared onboard the vessel. The ship also hosted schoolchildren, offering them an introduction to the Indian Navy and life at sea. Other activities included a community run themed “Run for One Ocean, One Mission” and a yoga session promoting the message “Yoga for SAGAR”.

A reception held onboard IOS SAGAR was hosted by the Siddarth Chowdhary, Commanding Officer of the vessel, together with the High Commission of India in Singapore. The event welcomed dignitaries from the Ministry of Defence Singapore, the Republic of Singapore Navy, members of the diplomatic corps, prominent Singaporeans and representatives of the Indian diaspora.

As part of professional engagements, Commander Chowdhary also met with Chuah Meng Soon, Base Commander and Commander of the 9th Flotilla of the Republic of Singapore Navy. During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the strong and friendly ties between the Indian Navy and the Singapore Navy.

The IOS SAGAR crew further participated in professional exchanges with the Republic of Singapore Navy at Changi Naval Base, including firefighting and damage control drills using naval simulators, as well as training sessions at the Advanced Mission Ship Simulator focused on navigation and pilotage in restricted waters.

The delegation also visited the Singapore Discovery Centre and the Naval Museum, gaining insights into Singapore’s maritime history and the development of the Singapore Armed Forces.
