Minister Nara Lokesh engaged Singapore government and industry stakeholders to strengthen cooperation in urban development, trade connectivity, digital governance, and business events infrastructure
Andhra Pradesh Minister for Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, and Human Resources Development, Nara Lokesh, held a series of official engagements in Singapore aimed at strengthening cooperation between Andhra Pradesh and Singapore across urban development, trade, governance, and economic development sectors. The visit included meetings with the Telugu diaspora, Singapore government representatives, and industry leaders to discuss investment opportunities and ongoing bilateral projects.

The engagements formed part of Andhra Pradesh’s outreach efforts to deepen partnerships with Singapore institutions and businesses as the state continued to pursue infrastructure expansion, digital transformation, and export-oriented growth initiatives. Meetings were conducted with members of the Joint Implementation Steering Committee (JISC), business leaders, and stakeholders from the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector.
During an interaction with the Telugu community in Singapore, Mr. Lokesh acknowledged the diaspora’s support and appreciation for Andhra Pradesh’s ongoing investment and development initiatives. He encouraged members of the overseas community to promote Andhra Pradesh’s economic opportunities internationally and contribute to strengthening global engagement with the state.
At a meeting of the JISC established by the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Singapore, Mr. Lokesh discussed measures to accelerate development of the Amaravati Economic Region and an integrated township project in Amaravati. He reportedly requested support for expediting implementation processes and sought assistance in engaging multilateral institutions, including the World Bank, for project facilitation and infrastructure development.

Discussions with Singapore counterparts also focused on urban planning, real-time governance systems, and the development of Andhra Pradesh as a regional trade and business gateway connecting Southeast Asia and East Asia. Officials noted that cooperation between Andhra Pradesh and Singapore had continued to expand in areas including governance, digital transformation, and economic planning.
Mr. Lokesh also met Gloria Wu, Chief Executive Officer of the Commodities Intelligence Centre, to discuss trade and export opportunities for Andhra Pradesh. The discussions explored the use of blockchain-enabled commodities platforms to strengthen trade linkages and support exports from sectors such as aquaculture, agriculture, minerals, and green energy.

According to the discussions, Andhra Pradesh aimed to enhance global supply chain connectivity through port-led industrialisation, improved logistics infrastructure, and increased support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) seeking access to international markets and trade finance networks.
As part of the visit, Mr. Lokesh toured Suntec City to examine Singapore’s MICE infrastructure model and discuss opportunities for developing a next-generation MICE ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh. Plans under discussion included the establishment of facilitation bureaus in Visakhapatnam, Amaravati, and Tirupati, alongside the expansion of hotel and convention infrastructure across the state.

Officials stated that Andhra Pradesh planned to increase hotel room capacity to approximately 20,000 rooms over the next five years. Amaravati had already approved four convention centres, while Visakhapatnam was expected to develop a large-scale MICE destination in partnership with the Government of India. The state also highlighted ongoing expansions by technology companies in Visakhapatnam as part of efforts to position Andhra Pradesh as a destination for international business events and investment.
The engagements concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to continued cooperation in infrastructure development, trade connectivity, urban planning, and digital governance. Further discussions and follow-up engagements between Andhra Pradesh authorities and Singapore stakeholders were expected in the coming months.
