Visit included meetings with Singapore leaders, participation in the World Cities Summit and a new collaboration on urban development
Governor of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta Pramono Anung Wibowo visited Singapore from 14 to 15 June under the Republic of Indonesia-Singapore (RISING) Fellowship, at the invitation of Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan. The visit included engagements with Singapore leaders, participation in the World Cities Summit 2026 and the strengthening of cooperation on urban governance and sustainable development.

The visit formed part of the RISING Fellowship, a flagship bilateral initiative launched at the 2018 Singapore-Indonesia Leaders’ Retreat to deepen ties between Singapore and Indonesia’s regional leaders. During his stay, Governor Pramono called on Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong, was hosted to tea by Minister Balakrishnan and met Minister for National Development Chee Hong Tat.

Governor Pramono attended the World Cities Summit 2026 and participated in the signing ceremony for an arrangement between the Centre for Liveable Cities under Singapore’s Ministry of National Development and the Government of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta. The arrangement aims to enhance cooperation in knowledge sharing, capacity building and research related to urban development.
During discussions with Minister Balakrishnan, both sides exchanged views on opportunities to strengthen collaboration in areas including urban governance and sustainability. Minister Balakrishnan noted that “Jakarta is a city of remarkable energy and dynamism. More than 200 weekly flight services connect Singapore and Jakarta, reflecting the warmth and closeness of our people-to-people ties.”
Governor Pramono said Minister Balakrishnan had expressed appreciation for the progress made in Jakarta’s public transportation network and its increasing connectivity. He noted that the developments reflected that Jakarta’s urban transformation efforts were moving in the right direction.
The visit underscored the close relationship between Singapore and Indonesia and reaffirmed the importance of continued exchanges between leaders and institutions. Both sides expressed confidence that cooperation through platforms such as the RISING Fellowship and the World Cities Summit would contribute to deeper collaboration and the sharing of best practices in sustainable urban development.
