The Deputy Governor of Makkah Region, Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, performed the annual washing of the Holy Kaaba on 30 June 2026 on behalf of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The revered ceremony, held at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, reflects a long-standing Islamic tradition and underscores the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s continued commitment to the care of Islam’s holiest site.

Upon entering the Holy Kaaba, Prince Saud washed its interior using Zamzam water blended with rose water and the finest oud. The inner walls were then gently cleansed with specially prepared cloths moistened with the fragrant mixture, which was prepared by the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.

The annual Kaaba washing ceremony is one of the Kingdom’s most significant religious observances, symbolising reverence, purification, and the ongoing stewardship of the Two Holy Mosques. The ritual has been preserved over generations and remains an important occasion attended by senior members of the Saudi leadership and distinguished guests.

Joining the deputy governor during the ceremony were several government officials, members of the Islamic diplomatic corps accredited to the Kingdom, and the hereditary caretakers of the Holy Kaaba. Their presence highlighted the ceremony’s spiritual significance and its role in bringing together representatives of the Muslim world in honour of one of Islam’s most sacred traditions.
