Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC), H.E. San Lwin, met with H.E. Dr. Janil Puthucheary, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment and Senior Minister of State for Education, to discuss priorities for Singapore’s ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Chairmanship in 2027.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on key areas of cooperation under Singapore’s forthcoming ASCC Chairmanship. Their discussions centred on strengthening regional efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change while advancing environmental protection, reflecting ASEAN’s continued commitment to sustainable and inclusive development.

Climate resilience and environmental sustainability remain among the region’s most pressing priorities as ASEAN Member States work together to address increasingly complex environmental challenges. The exchange underscored the importance of collaborative approaches and shared responsibility in building a more resilient and sustainable ASEAN Community.

During the meeting, Deputy Secretary-General San Lwin reaffirmed the ASEAN Secretariat’s full support for Singapore’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2027. The Secretariat expressed its readiness to work closely with Singapore to advance the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community agenda and promote initiatives that enhance the well-being of the region’s people while safeguarding the environment.

As preparations continue for Singapore’s 2027 Chairmanship, the discussion highlighted the value of close coordination between the ASEAN Secretariat and Member States in delivering meaningful outcomes that contribute to regional sustainability, environmental stewardship and the long-term resilience of ASEAN communities.
