
The programme featured the hoisting of the tricolour, student cultural performances, exhibitions, competitions and a wreath-laying ceremony at Kranji War Memorial.
The High Commission of India in Singapore commemorated India’s 80th Independence Day with a series of activities involving students, members of the Indian community and Singaporean friends. H.E. Dr Shilpak Ambule, High Commissioner of India to Singapore, hoisted the tricolour and read excerpts from the Honorable President of India’s address to the nation on the eve of Independence Day.

Students from Global Indian International School (GIIS), DPS International School, Wise Oaks International School, NPS International School, Kindle Kids International School and Yuvabharathi International School presented cultural performances during the celebrations at the High Commission.

Beyond the cultural performances, the Independence Day celebration included several separate activities organised by the High Commission of India in Singapore. Exhibitions were held on the themes of 150 years of Vande Mataram and Viksit Bharat, while a separate painting competition for school children on the theme “Viksit Bharat 2047” was organised in collaboration with local schools. In another activity, H.E. Dr Shilpak Ambule felicitated top performers of the Special Independence Day Edition of the Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz.

A wreath-laying ceremony was also held at Kranji War Memorial in remembrance of Indian soldiers who fought in Singapore during the Second World War. H.E. Dr Shilpak Ambule laid a wreath, with members of the Indian Defence Community in Singapore, High Commission officials, the Indian diaspora and Singaporean friends attending the ceremony.
