ASEAN think tanks discussed policy contributions as the region prepares for 2045.
ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn officiated the 3rd ASEAN Think Tanks Summit (ATTS) at the ASEAN Headquarters and ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. The summit provided a platform to highlight the role of think tanks and academia in regional policymaking as ASEAN prepares for its 60th anniversary and advances the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
In his keynote remarks, Dr. Kao emphasised the contribution of the region’s think tank community to ASEAN’s policymaking process. He highlighted the role of research institutions and academia in helping ASEAN anticipate change, strengthen resilience and navigate its future.
Dr. Kao also addressed the broader outlook for ASEAN as the organisation moves towards its 60th anniversary and implements the ASEAN Community Vision 2045. He underscored the importance of informed research and academic contributions in supporting the region’s policy development and future direction.
The 3rd ASEAN Think Tanks Summit was organised by the Singapore Institute for International Affairs (SIIA) on behalf of the ASEAN-ISIS Network, an entity associated with ASEAN. The summit was held at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, providing a setting for members of the regional think tank and academic community to engage on issues relevant to ASEAN’s policymaking process.
At the conclusion of his remarks, Dr. Kao applauded the Singapore Institute for International Affairs for spearheading the organisation of the summit on behalf of the ASEAN-ISIS Network.
The event highlighted the role of think tanks and academia as ASEAN continues preparations for its 60th anniversary and works towards the ASEAN Community Vision 2045. Their contribution was presented as relevant to anticipating regional and global changes, supporting resilience and informing ASEAN’s future policy direction.
