Malaysia and Singapore discussed family wellbeing, social support and future community exchanges.
Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Singapore, H.E. Datin Paduka Siti Hajjar Adnin, met Singapore’s Minister for Social and Family Development, Masagos Zulkifli, for an introductory call on 17 September 2026. The meeting focused on family wellbeing, social support and people-to-people ties between Malaysia and Singapore, including potential future exchanges involving persons with disabilities and disadvantaged communities.
The introductory call provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss the enduring family, friendship and people-to-people connections between Malaysians and Singaporeans. The High Commissioner and Minister Masagos noted the close ties that continue to connect communities in both countries.
Discussions also centred on the importance of empowering families to thrive and respond to challenges in the modern world. Malaysia expressed interest in Singapore’s policy support for families, including initiatives announced during the recent National Day Rally by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
Malaysia also acknowledged Singapore’s international initiatives to promote family values. On its part, Malaysia highlighted its own pragmatic policies aimed at strengthening the family as a fundamental social institution, with a focus on supporting the wellbeing of family members, particularly children, while ensuring social protection and respecting different cultural and religious practices.
The discussion also covered opportunities to develop people-to-people connections through future cooperation. H.E. Datin Paduka Siti Hajjar Adnin welcomed Minister Masagos’ suggestions for potential collaborations between Malaysia and Singapore.
These included possible exchanges involving persons with disabilities and other disadvantaged communities, with areas of interest including work, art and crafts. The proposed exchanges would provide opportunities for communities in both countries to share experiences and engage with one another.
The meeting reflected the range of social and community issues of mutual interest to Malaysia and Singapore, particularly in relation to family wellbeing, social inclusion and people-to-people connections.
