
Kazakhstan and Chinese companies discussed investment in energy, digitalisation, finance, nuclear cooperation.
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with senior representatives of several Chinese companies on 25 September 2026 to discuss prospects for joint projects in energy, digitalisation and finance. The meeting focused on expanding investment and technological cooperation between Kazakhstan and China, including data centre infrastructure, artificial intelligence, nuclear energy and the oil and gas sector.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Yin Caiwan of Hong Kong Sino-Science Oil and Gas, Mr. Sheng Chen, Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of VNET Group, Mr. Tian Jiashu of Shanghai Junhe Atomic Technology, and Mr. Li Shan of Silk Road Finance Corporation.

During the meeting, President Tokayev highlighted the momentum of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and China and stressed the importance of developing its technological and industrial dimensions. He said the participation of leading Chinese companies demonstrated their confidence in Kazakhstan.
Tokayev also thanked Mr. Yin Caiwan and Hong Kong Sino-Science Oil and Gas for the company’s contribution to organising the Kazakhstan-China Investment Forum. According to the Akorda press service, the company has invested more than US$3 billion in Kazakhstan over the years and has become one of the key participants in the country’s oil and gas industry.
VNET Group Executive Chairman Mr. Sheng Chen expressed interest in participating in the development of a data centre and artificial intelligence infrastructure cluster. President Tokayev confirmed Kazakhstan’s readiness to cooperate in attracting investment, localising technology, conducting joint research, developing talent and establishing centres of excellence.
Nuclear energy was also discussed as an area for technological cooperation with Shanghai Junhe Atomic Technology. The participants highlighted the importance of developing a complete production cycle, covering natural uranium processing, nuclear fuel production and the assembly of small modular reactors.
The Chinese business representatives also expressed appreciation for Kazakhstan’s efforts to improve the investment climate and advance institutional reforms. They confirmed their readiness to increase investment in the traditional energy sector and in new industries and projects supporting Kazakhstan’s development.
The meeting followed Tokayev’s earlier engagement with Mr. Cai Guansheng, Chairman of Sunwah Group and the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.
