Singapore’s Dr. Mohamad Maliki Osman heads to Brazil for the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on 21-22 February 2024, aiming to enhance global governance dialogue.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamad Maliki Osman, is set to visit Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 21 to 22 February 2024. This working visit is primarily to participate in the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. As the Convenor of the Global Governance Group (3G), Singapore has received an invitation to this significant event by the G20 Presidency. The Global Governance Group, which represents 30 small- and medium-sized nations within the United Nations, plays a crucial role in promoting inclusivity and facilitating dialogue between the G20 and the broader UN membership.
The visit comes at a time of increasing geopolitical and economic challenges globally. Discussions at the G20 meeting will cover the bloc’s pivotal role in addressing current international tensions and the urgent need for reforms in global governance mechanisms.
Alongside the G20 discussions, Minister Maliki is scheduled for bilateral meetings with his international counterparts. These sessions aim to deepen diplomatic ties and explore avenues for cooperation. He will be accompanied by a delegation of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, underscoring the visit’s importance in Singapore’s foreign policy and international relations strategy.
