Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, Teo Chee Hean, embarked on a significant official visit to China, enhancing bilateral relations and discussing future cooperation.

Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, Teo Chee Hean, conducted an impactful official visit to the People’s Republic of China from 17 to 22 March 2024. The visit covered crucial regions including Sichuan, Zhejiang, and the capital, Beijing, focusing on strengthening Singapore’s ties with China through various high-level meetings.

In Chengdu and Hangzhou, Senior Minister Teo met with the Communist Party of China (CPC) Secretaries of Sichuan and Zhejiang provinces, Wang Xiaohui and Yi Lianhong, respectively. These meetings aimed to deepen Singapore’s cooperation with Western China and the Yangtze River Delta. Additionally, Senior Minister Teo engaged with Singapore companies operating in the regions, gaining insights into the latest economic developments.

A notable meeting took place on 21 March with Chen Xi, President of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee in Beijing. They reviewed the longstanding cooperation between Singapore and China in human resource development and celebrated the resumption of in-person exchanges post-COVID-19 pandemic.

On the final day of the visit, 22 March, discussions with Vice President Han Zheng and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, Chen Wenqing, highlighted the robust relations between the two nations. They commemorated key bilateral milestones, including the 30th anniversary of the Suzhou Industrial Park and the 20th edition of the Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation. The meetings also addressed strengthening connectivity and collaboration in tackling transnational crime, alongside anticipation for co-chairing the 4th Singapore-China Social Governance Forum.

Senior Minister Teo’s visit underscores the dynamic and evolving relationship between Singapore and China, focusing on mutual benefits and cooperation across various sectors. He returns to Singapore with positive outcomes from the trip, marking a step forward in the bilateral relations between the two countries.
