
The visit strengthened Singapore–US ties and explored new avenues for economic and technological cooperation.
Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong concluded a week-long working visit to the United States of America from 20 to 26 July 2025, aimed at deepening bilateral ties and strengthening cooperation in key areas.
DPM Gan began his visit in New York on 21 July, before travelling to Washington D.C. from 22 to 26 July. His visit underscored the robust and multi-faceted partnership between Singapore and the United States, building on strong economic, commercial, and people-to-people ties.
In 2024, the US was Singapore’s second-largest trading partner, while Singapore ranked as the US’ 16th largest trading partner and third-largest Asian investor in the country. Over 250 Singaporean companies are present in 45 US states, reflecting deep investment and commercial linkages.
During the visit, DPM Gan met with US Cabinet Secretaries, members of Congress, and representatives from the business and private sectors. He also participated in a business roundtable organised by the US Chamber of Commerce, where he discussed regional and global economic trends and opportunities to expand collaboration between Singaporean and American companies, particularly in emerging areas such as technology and energy.
DPM Gan was accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
