Singapore’s Prime Minister observed new defence technologies and praised soldiers for their commitment to national security. The visit highlighted how the armed forces are adapting to modern battlefield challenges.

Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong visited the Singapore Army’s 6th Singapore Division/Headquarters Sense & Strike (6 Div/HQ SS) on Friday morning to observe its integrated training and new defence capabilities.

During the visit, PM Wong was briefed on the division’s transformation efforts. These include stronger coordination between the Army’s intelligence and artillery units, as well as closer integration with the Republic of Singapore Air Force and the Digital and Intelligence Service.

PM Wong also met soldiers taking part in the division’s Advanced Competency Training. He spoke with full-time national servicemen, reservists, regular personnel, and defence technology partners.

A key part of the visit was a demonstration of the Singapore Armed Forces’ “sense and strike” system. The showcase featured a Robotics Command, Control and Communications system developed by the Defence Science and Technology Agency. The system allows one operator to manage several intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance drones at the same time.

Using artificial intelligence and computer vision, drone data can be processed quickly to identify targets. This information can then support fast and coordinated action by precision strike assets such as the M142 HIMARS, fighter aircraft, and AH-64D Apache helicopters.

In a post on X after the visit, PM Wong said he was encouraged by the Singapore Armed Forces’ progress in building new capabilities and using technology across different domains.

He said Singapore’s defence strength is built through years of steady investment and long-term planning. He also noted that warfare is changing rapidly, with drones and unmanned systems creating new and more unpredictable threats.

PM Wong was accompanied by Chan Chun Sing, Aaron Beng, Cai Dexian, and other senior Singapore Army officers.
