As one of the Indonesian diaspora communities actively supporting the promotion of Indonesian culture abroad, Komunitas Cinta Berkain Indonesia (KCBI) Singapore participated in a series of cultural activities organised by Dharma Wanita Persatuan of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore in commemoration of Kartini Day on 13 May 2026.

The programme was held as part of the embassy’s cultural outreach initiatives aimed at celebrating the legacy of Kartini while strengthening appreciation for Indonesian heritage among the Indonesian community and international audiences in Singapore. The event brought together members of the diaspora, cultural practitioners and invited guests through discussions and cultural presentations centred on traditional Indonesian textiles and women’s contributions to cultural preservation.

Through a talk show and fashion show themed “Cerita di Balik Lembaran Batik Era Kartini”, KCBI Singapore presented the philosophy behind the traditional parang batik motif as part of Indonesia’s rich batik heritage. The community highlighted the historical and symbolic significance of batik patterns, while also showcasing how traditional attire continues to remain relevant in contemporary cultural expression.

The participation of KCBI Singapore reflected the role of diaspora communities in promoting Indonesian culture in an international setting through contextual and educational initiatives. The programme also contributed to strengthening connections among Indonesian communities in Singapore and fostering wider appreciation for Indonesia’s cultural heritage.

The organisers expressed hope that similar cultural initiatives would continue to encourage cross-cultural engagement and reinforce efforts to preserve and promote Indonesian traditions internationally.
