Fourteen young Filipino students earned 19 awards at the 2026 Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC) in Singapore, highlighting the Philippines’ continued success in international mathematics competitions. The team’s outstanding performance was led by 12-year-old Lebron James B. Pornillos, who emerged as the Overall Runner-up in the Grade 6 category.
The Philippine contingent delivered an impressive performance at the 2026 Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC), securing a total of 19 awards during the competition held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore from 17 to 21 July 2026. The team, consisting of 14 young Filipino students, demonstrated exceptional mathematical ability and teamwork across both the individual and team events. The awards ceremony on 22 July 2026 was attended by Second Secretary and Consul Renee Gayle M. Chua, Head of the Cultural and Filipino Community Section of the Philippine Embassy in Singapore.
Competing in the Math Olympiad (Individual), Math Warriors, and Math Mind Master categories, the Philippine team brought home an impressive medal haul comprising six gold medals, six silver medals, six bronze medals, and one Honourable Mention. Their achievements reflected not only strong analytical and problem-solving skills but also the dedication and preparation of the students, their coaches, and supporting institutions.
Among the standout performers was 12-year-old Lebron James B. Pornillos from General Trias City, Cavite, who emerged as the Overall Runner-up in the Grade 6 category. He earned two gold awards in the Math Olympiad (Individual) and Math Mind Master (Team), as well as one silver medal in the Math Warriors (Team) event. With three international awards, he recorded the highest individual achievement within the Philippine delegation, demonstrating remarkable consistency, mathematical excellence, and collaborative skills throughout the competition.
The Philippine Embassy in Singapore congratulated the entire contingent, as well as their parents, educators, and the Asian MathSci League, Inc. (AMSLI), for their unwavering commitment to academic excellence. This year’s SIMOC brought together 2,285 students from 1,113 schools across 40 countries and territories, underscoring the competition’s international prestige. The Embassy also noted the Philippines’ sustained success in global mathematics competitions, following the country’s strong showing in SIMOC 2025, where a 35-member delegation secured 31 medals.
