Congratulatory message from H.E. Agustín García-López Loaeza, Ambassador of Mexico to Singapore & Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, on the occasion of Singapore’s 61st National Day

“As Singapore celebrates its 61st National Day, it is my great honour, on behalf of the Diplomatic Corps and the Embassy of Mexico in Singapore, to extend our warmest congratulations and heartfelt best wishes to the Government and people of the Republic of Singapore.

Mexico and Singapore share a close and longstanding friendship built on five decades of diplomatic relations. Since establishing ties in December 1975, our partnership has grown steadily in trade, investment, innovation, and multilateral cooperation.

The 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relations in 2025 was a particularly meaningful milestone. President Tharman Shanmugaratnam’s State Visit to Mexico in December 2025 underscored the warmth and momentum in our bilateral ties. His meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reaffirmed our shared commitment to strengthening cooperation and creating new opportunities for our two nations.

The opening of a resident Singapore Embassy in Mexico City in 2026 marks another important step forward. It will bring our countries even closer and open new avenues for engagement between Mexico, Singapore, and the wider regions of Latin America and Southeast Asia.

Our economic partnership also continues to flourish. Mexico is proud to be Singapore’s number one trading partner in Latin America, with bilateral trade and services exceeding US$20 billion. The Pacific Alliance–Singapore Free Trade Agreement (PASFTA) will further expand trade and investment and strengthen the bridge between our two regions. Beyond economics, our shared spirit of innovation and commitment to multilateralism provide a strong foundation for an even closer partnership in the years ahead.

Singapore’s remarkable journey over the past 61 years is a source of admiration. Its resilience, dynamism, and forward-looking spirit continue to inspire the world.

On this special occasion, I wish the people of Singapore continued peace, prosperity, and happiness. May the friendship between Mexico and Singapore grow stronger, bringing our peoples closer and creating many more opportunities to work together.

Happy 61st National Day !”
