
Speaking at the 37th Annual International Military Law and Operations (MILOPS) Conference, ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn reaffirmed ASEAN’s commitment to maintaining peace, security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific through dialogue, cooperation and an inclusive regional architecture.
Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, participated in the 37th Annual International Military Law and Operations (MILOPS) Conference, where he delivered a keynote address titled ASEAN Centrality in the Context of Maintaining Peace, Security and Prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. The address underscored ASEAN’s enduring role in fostering regional stability amid an increasingly complex strategic environment.

In his keynote remarks, Dr. Kao emphasised that ASEAN Centrality remains fundamental to the region’s efforts to preserve peace, security and sustainable prosperity. He highlighted the importance of maintaining an open, inclusive and transparent regional architecture that encourages constructive engagement among ASEAN Member States and external partners.

Dr. Kao further reaffirmed ASEAN’s steadfast commitment to dialogue and cooperation as the cornerstone of regional peace and confidence-building. He noted that ASEAN continues to promote practical collaboration through its established mechanisms and partnerships, enabling the region to address shared challenges while supporting mutual trust and understanding.

The Secretary-General also stressed that ASEAN’s approach is guided by respect for international law, multilateralism and consensus-based cooperation. These principles, he noted, have enabled ASEAN to remain a credible platform for regional dialogue and a driving force in promoting stability and resilience across the Indo-Pacific.

His participation in the MILOPS Conference reflects ASEAN’s continued engagement with international stakeholders on issues relating to peace, security and the rule of law. The conference provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on the evolving security landscape while reinforcing ASEAN’s vision of a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
