The South African High Commission in Singapore hosted the Women’s Roundtable on “Sheconomy in Action: Empowering Women Leaders and Entrepreneurs in the Digital Age” on Friday, 25 September 2026, as part of South Africa Focus Week 2026. Held in Singapore, the roundtable examined women’s participation in the digital economy, with discussions focusing on economic ownership, entrepreneurship, technology, finance, mentorship and access to international markets.

The roundtable explored how women could move beyond participation in the digital economy to create, own, finance and grow businesses. Participants discussed the importance of connecting women-owned businesses with investors, international buyers, distributors, financial institutions and technology partners.

The discussion also focused on mentorship, education and skills development as pathways for women and young women to develop leadership capabilities. Participants highlighted the need for women to have opportunities to contribute to decision-making, develop professional networks and access platforms that support entrepreneurship and innovation.

Education and technology were also key areas of discussion. The Global Schools Group shared its approach to preparing students for the digital economy, including the integration of artificial intelligence into education and opportunities for collaboration between institutions in Singapore and South Africa.

A further discussion examined the question of how women could convert digital opportunities into economic power. Participants addressed intellectual property, technology ownership, digital market access, corporate procurement, innovative financing and business scalability.

The roundtable also considered practical ways to improve business links between South Africa and Southeast Asia. Discussions highlighted the role of trade agencies, government networks, investors, payment providers, logistics companies and digital platforms in helping women-owned enterprises access customers, finance and international markets.

As part of the wider South Africa Focus Week 2026 programme, the roundtable provided a platform for discussion on women’s leadership, entrepreneurship, digital skills and economic participation, with a focus on practical pathways towards greater ownership and market access.
