Thailand and ReCAAP ISC discussed maritime security, cybersecurity and regional shipping concerns.
On 25 September 2026, H.E. Waraphannee Damrongmanee, Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore, welcomed Mr. Vijay D. Chafekar, Executive Director of the Information Sharing Centre (ISC) of the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP), at the Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore. The meeting took place during Mr. Chafekar’s courtesy call and briefing on the mandate and activities of the ReCAAP ISC.
The meeting provided an opportunity for Thailand and the ReCAAP ISC to discuss cooperation in maritime security and related areas. Discussions covered the secondment of Thai representatives to the ReCAAP ISC, as well as measures to enhance maritime cybersecurity.
Ambassador Waraphannee and Mr. Chafekar also exchanged views on the role of the ReCAAP ISC within the ASEAN framework. The discussion addressed the Centre’s activities and its mandate in relation to regional maritime security cooperation.
The two sides further discussed the implications of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz for maritime security and regional shipping. Their exchange covered concerns related to the wider maritime environment and the potential implications for shipping in the region.
The ReCAAP ISC operates under the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia, which provides a framework for cooperation and information sharing on piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia. During the courtesy call, Mr. Chafekar briefed the Thai Ambassador on the mandate and activities of the Information Sharing Centre.
The meeting also provided a platform for Thailand and the ReCAAP ISC to exchange views on areas of mutual interest, including maritime cybersecurity, personnel secondment and the Centre’s role within the ASEAN framework. The discussions reflected the parties’ ongoing engagement on maritime security and regional shipping matters.
