Top chip maker Micron shows how it shares technology, process knowledge and automation know-how between its Singapore and Malaysia operations to stay ahead

THE Singapore branch of MIDA (Malaysia Investment Development Authority) together with MITI Singapore helped organise a visit to Micron Singapore led by the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore, His Excellency Dato’ Dr. Azfar Mohamad Mustafar on 30th May 2022. Micron is the industry’s most advanced manufacturing technology provider for both DRAM and NAND market, having generated US$27.7B of revenue FY2021.

Micron’s presence in Singapore not only consists of its worldwide operations headquarters, but also its NAND Center of Excellence (COE), including an R&D technology center for NAND innovation, a shared service center providing centralized support for Singapore and Asia Pacific operations and also three 200mm and 300mm memory wafer fabrication facilities and a test and assembly facility.

In Malaysia, over the past four years, Micron has integrated R&D, service center, procurement, sales/quality, manufacturing & testing facilities, strengthening their commitments in the country.

The High Commissioner was hosted and taken on a tour of the state-of-the-art facilities by Mr. Manish Bhatia, Executive Vice President of Global Operations and Mr. Amarjit Singh Vice President NAND Operations, Penang shared Micron’s continuous efforts to keep the synergy between both their Singapore and Malaysia operations via transferring of technology, process knowledge and automation know-how. Also, Micron Technology in the US, pledged to invest more than US$150 billion globally over the next decade to drive memory manufacturing as well as research and development to mitigate the global chip shortage that has disrupted the production of various goods, including cars, smartphones and medical equipment.
