Senior Minister highlights opportunities, community strength, and student growth at Teck Ghee education event.

Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong addressed students, parents, and community members at the Teck Ghee CCC-CDC Education Merit Award Presentation Ceremony on 18 April 2026 in Singapore.

Also present were grassroots leaders, principals and teachers, parents, and award recipients.

Mr Lee began by congratulating the students for their achievements and commending their hard work. He also thanked parents and teachers for their strong support, noting that students succeed because of the encouragement and guidance they receive at home and in school.

He spoke about the changing global environment, mentioning developments involving Iran, United States, and Israel, as well as disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. Despite these challenges, he reassured that Singapore is well-prepared and remains in a strong position to respond effectively.

Mr Lee highlighted that the Government has introduced a $1 billion support package to help households and businesses cope with rising costs. Measures include CDC vouchers, increased cash payouts, and targeted assistance for workers and essential sectors. These efforts are meant to provide timely relief and support Singaporeans through the situation.

He encouraged everyone to stay calm and focus on what they can do. Students were advised to work hard in their studies, build friendships, and take part in activities that help them grow as individuals.

Mr Lee also emphasised the importance of community spirit. Referring to the experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, he noted how Singaporeans came together to support one another. He encouraged parents and older students to volunteer and take part in community activities in Teck Ghee.

He said strong community networks are key to overcoming challenges and should be built steadily over time. Residents were encouraged to contribute and help create a more caring and united society.
