High Commissioner H.E. Innocent B. Muhizi represented the Government of Rwanda at the Future of Investment and Trade Partnership (FIT-P) Meeting in Auckland, where participating economies advanced new commitments to reduce trade barriers and strengthen economic resilience.
The Government of Rwanda participated in the Future of Investment and Trade Partnership (FIT-P) Meeting held in Auckland, New Zealand, where High Commissioner H.E. Innocent B. Muhizi represented the country during the launch and signing of the Plurilateral Arrangement on Cooperation on Non-Tariff Barriers. The meeting was chaired by Hon. Todd McClay, New Zealand’s Minister for Trade and Investment, and brought together trade ministers and senior officials from participating FIT-P economies to strengthen regional trade cooperation.
The newly launched Plurilateral Arrangement on Cooperation on Non-Tariff Barriers aims to enhance collaboration among participating economies by addressing regulatory and procedural obstacles that can hinder the smooth flow of international trade. Rwanda’s participation underscores its commitment to promoting a more open, transparent, and efficient trading environment while supporting initiatives that facilitate cross-border commerce.
In addition to the signing ceremony, the FIT-P Meeting concluded with the adoption of two important ministerial declarations. The Ministerial Declaration on Promoting Economic Resilience to Address Economic Security Risks received the endorsement of 13 FIT-P members, reflecting a shared determination to strengthen economic resilience and improve preparedness against evolving global trade challenges.
Meanwhile, the Ministerial Declaration on Facilitating the Digitalisation of Trade Processes and Documents was endorsed by 14 FIT-P members, highlighting the growing importance of digital trade solutions in enhancing efficiency and reducing administrative burdens. The declaration supports greater use of digital processes and documentation to streamline international trade and improve connectivity among participating economies.
Rwanda’s participation in the FIT-P Meeting reflects its continued engagement in international trade initiatives that promote economic cooperation, innovation, and sustainable growth. By joining collaborative efforts to reduce non-tariff barriers and accelerate digital trade, Rwanda reinforces its commitment to fostering a resilient and inclusive global trading system.
