Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi arrived in Australia for an official visit from 8 to 10 July at the invitation of Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese, with the two leaders meeting in Melbourne for the Third India-Australia Annual Summit. The visit reflects the growing importance of the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and both countries’ shared commitment to peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.

During the Annual Summit, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Albanese reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation since the elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2020. Their discussions covered defence and security, trade and investment, clean energy, critical minerals, technology, education, mobility, and people-to-people links, while also exchanging views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.

Prime Minister Modi also met Governor-General of Australia Her Excellency Ms Sam Mostyn, reaffirming the strong friendship between the two nations and the enduring bonds shared by their peoples. The leaders recognised the expanding scope of cooperation across government, business and cultural exchanges.

Addressing the India-Australia Economic Roadmap Business Reception and engaging with business leaders, Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s economic transformation and invited Australian businesses to expand partnerships in manufacturing, clean energy, infrastructure, critical minerals, digital innovation and advanced technologies. He emphasised the role of stronger commercial ties in supporting resilient supply chains and sustainable economic growth.

The two Prime Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to a free, open, inclusive and rules-based Indo-Pacific and welcomed continued cooperation through regional and multilateral forums. They also underscored the importance of strengthening economic resilience, enhancing technological collaboration and promoting regional security through closer bilateral engagement.

The visit reinforces the expanding India-Australia partnership, with both governments expressing confidence that deeper cooperation will create new opportunities for businesses, strengthen strategic trust and contribute to regional stability and shared prosperity across the Indo-Pacific.
